"This species is named after the late Georges Randrianasolo (1930-1989), a Malagasy ornithologist, who contributed much to the development of the natural sciences of Madagascar. When 15 years old. he was employed by Philippe Milon as a field assistant. Their association continued for many decades, and together with J.-J. Petter, he authored Les Oiseaux de Madagascar (Milon et al. 1973). From 1956 to 1972, G. Randrianasolo was employed by 1'Institut de Recherche Scientifique de Madagascar (IRSM) and its successor agency, the Office de la Recherche Scientifique et Technique des Territoires d'Outre Mer (ORSTOM). Subsequently he served as Director of the Parc Botanique et Zoologique de Tsimbazaza (1973-1984) and as Lecturer in the Service de Zoologie, UniversitC de Madagascar, Antananarivo (1984- 1987). Over the course of three decades, G. Randrianasolo travelled extensively around Madagascar and promoted many national and international zoologists working on the island."
